Obituary of Delfin A. Mello
Peabody, February 10, 2002. Delfin A. Mello, 68, of Davis Terrace, Peabody, died peacefully early Sunday morning at his home following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Mary Celeste (Bettencourt) Mello with whom he shared over 44 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Dominic & Mary (Marques) Mello. He had been a lifelong resident of Peabody and had attended Peabody High School and also St. James Grammar School in Salem.
He was a veteran on the Korean War, having served with the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany for 4 years. He had worked in the landscaping, asphalt paving, and snowplow business for 20 years and later had worked maintenance for 14 years for HMA Car Care in Salem prior to his retirement 2 years ago. He also enjoyed playing soccer and was a member of the Peabody Club Luis De Camoes Soccer Team.
Besides his loving wife of 44 years, he is survived by a 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph R. & Cynthia Mello and Delfin O. Mello, all of Peabody; a daughter and a son-in-law, Mary & Jose Carlos Azevedo of Peabody; a sister, Ducilia Jay of Salem; a brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph & Karen Bettencourt of Salem; a niece Donna Hall of Salem; his Godchild, Kenneth Davis of Peabody; 4 grandchildren, Liana & Brandon Azevedo, and Matthew & Daniel Mello, all of Peabody; and several cousins. He was the father of the late John Candido Mello.
His service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility (978-531-0398> followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
