Obituary of Maria C. Dakos

Peabody – Maria C. (Kazogles) Dakos 78, beloved wife of Minas J. Dakos, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Care One in Peabody surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in Fitchburg, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Fanny (Arvanites) Kazogles. She graduated from Fitchburg High School and earned her degree from Becker College in Worcester.

As a young woman, Mrs. Dakos had been employed as a manager at Travelers Insurance in Danvers.

A resident of Peabody for the past fifty-seven years, Maria was elected to the Board of Trustees at the Peabody Institute and Library. She served eight years and was the chairperson of Starry, Starry Night, an annual event to raise funds for the Peabody Institute Library.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, with whom she shared fifty-seven years of marriage, she is survived by two daughters, Frances Shaheen of Atlanta, GA and Theodora D’Angelo and her husband, Steven of Grafton, one son, James Dakos of Peabody.  She was the grandmother to Michael Shaheen, Andrew, Anthony and Alexis D’Angelo and Christian Dakos. Three sisters-in-law, Joanna Kazogles of Leominster, Katherine Mallios of Peabody and Joyce Evangelides and her husband, Kosma of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Stanley Kazogles.

Her funeral services will be private. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
