Obituary of Eugene J Hurley

Eugene J. Hurley, 97, of Peabody, died on Wednesday September 11, 2019.  He resided at The Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody and passed away there following a brief illness.  He was the devoted husband of the late Delia M. (Burke) Hurley.  

Eugene was born and raised in Revere, MA, and he was the son of the late James and Nora (Hughes) Hurley.  He lived in Peabody for the past 64 years. 

Eugene was a veteran of WWII and served as a Radar Technician with the United States Marines.  Following the war, he worked as a Lithographer for Forbes Lithograph and Harvard University for 25 years.  He had a second career as a Manager for Kappy Liquors for many years.  

For hobbies, Eugene loved to go boating and fishing with his brother and children.  Eugene also enjoyed vacationing and traveling with his family and on a bowling league.

Eugene is survived by his children, Jeanne Zack and her husband William of Fairfax, VA and Naples, FL, Kathleen Hurley of Peabody, Erin Marshall and her husband Lt Col Thomas Marshall of Triangle, VA, James Hurley of Peabody, Brian and his wife Carla Hurley of Canton, Michael Hurley of Washington DC, Patrick Hurley of Peabody, Sean and his wife Joan Hurley of Monroe, CT, and Ryan Hurley formerly of Boston and now residing in Honolulu Hawaii.   Eugene is also survived by his three grandchildren: Kaitlin, Lauren, and John Hurley and Eugene’s sisters, Marion Fontaine and Virginia Michaud, both of Salem.   In addition, Eugene is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  His son Eugene J Hurley Jr, his sister Eileen Tighe and his brother James Hurley predeceased him. 

Following cremation, visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA.  The date is on Saturday, September 21st, 2019, from 09:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the same location.  To which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.   Military Honors burial services will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody immediately following the funeral service.  Expressions of sympathy can be made in his to name to the Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter at www.alz.org/MANH or the Roger B.
