Obituary of Esther M Murray

Esther M. (Glidden) Murray, 84, of Peabody, died on September 24 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family by her side following a brief illness.  She was the beloved wife of the late John Murray.

Born in Lynn on April 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (McGovern) Glidden.  She was raised and educated in Lynn, and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in 1954, she later continued her education at Merrimack College.  After college, Esther worked for GE in Lynn before starting her family.  She later went back to work as a private caregiver to the elderly.

She was an active member of St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody and volunteered at My Brother’s Table in Lynn for over 35 years.  She was long-time member of the A.O.H. Division 10 in Lynn and had been honored there as “Irish Women of the Year.”

Esther was an avid gardener and loved sitting in the backyard reading by her garden.  She also enjoyed traveling, discussing politics, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. 

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Paul and Sharyn Murray of Winchester, Patty and Brian Bennett of Glen, NH, and John and Stacy Murray of Lynnfield, her siblings, Sr. Helen Glidden of Louisville, KY, Margaret and her husband Joseph Murano of Lynn, and Rita Legere of Lynnfield.  She was the beloved Nana to her granddaughters Audra and Lorna, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her siblings, Henry, Edward, Mary, James, Catherine, and Joseph Glidden.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:30 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St. Peabody.   Expressions of sympathy can be made in her name to My Brothers Table, 98 Willow St, Lynn, MA 01901.
