Obituary of James W. Putney

James W. Putney, 84, of  Peabody, died peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Maureen (Mc Farland) Putney with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

Jim was born in Dedham, MA on January 21, 1935, the son of the late John K. and Mary E. (Welch) Putney and was raised there and had resided in Peabody MA for the past 45 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Smalley 565 before his discharge in 1957.

He was a member of the Pipefitter’s Union Local 537 serving throughout New England for fifty-five years prior to his retirement.    He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Gannon Golf Course in Lynn since 1968.   He also enjoyed bowling at the Metro Bowl in Peabody and played in many leagues there.   He was a boating enthusiast and had a boat for many years cruising the waters off the North Shore.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, of Peabody,  his children, Jeffrey Putney of  Peabody, Lisa Sackett and her husband Robert of Franklin, MA and Heather Putney Geisser and her husband Todd of Concord, NH, a brother, Wendall Putney of Dedham, his sisters, Joan Davidson of Wellesley and Lorraine Cimeno of Bourne, Ma,  a daughter-in-law, Donna Putney of Burlington, MA,  six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was the father of the late James Putney and Chad Putney.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility.  His funeral service will be held there on Thursday at 12 :00 PM.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn, Expressions of sympathy may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102-B, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.  For guestbook and directions, visit www.ccbfuneral.com
