Obituary of John J. Geer

Peabody – John J. Geer 92, died Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Den-Mar Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rockport.

Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary B. (Collins) Geer. He received his education in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School, class of 1944.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy.

Mr. Geer had owned and operated “Jack in the Books” Store in Peabody Square for many years until the time of his retirement in the mid 1980’s. Following his retirement, he worked as a garage manager at the State Street Bank Building in Boston for fifteen years. As a young man he taught Ballroom Dancing and had also ran a card store in Worcester.

A resident of Peabody since 1971 and a former resident of eight years at Sunrise at Gardner Park where he had exceptional care by their wonderful and caring staff,  Mr. Geer was a former member of the Italian American Club in Peabody.

He is survived by his sister, Rose M. Grennan and her husband, Donald of Peabody and many nieces and nephews and was “papa” to Demi and Lexi Orphanos. He was predeceased by his loving companion, Mary Lou Berry and his brothers, Daniel, Frank, James and Paul Geer.

His funeral service will be held graveside, at the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody, Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
