Obituary of Timothy M Barry
Timothy M. Barry, 57, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at his home. Born in Salem, He was the beloved son of Rita M. (McCormick) Barry of Peabody and the late John J. Barry, Jr.
Tim was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, class of 1979 and then continued his education and received his Criminal Justice Degree from Salem State College in 1985.
Tim was employed with the State of Massachusetts as a Parole officer for over 31 years before retiring in 2017. Tim also served with the Army National Guard for over 20 years before his honorable discharge in 2004.
Tim was very active in the city of Peabody; he was a former member of the Peabody School Committee and the Peabody Board of Appeals and was very active with many veteran organizations. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 508 and was past-president of the Massachusetts Parole Officer Association as well. He also was very active with the parish life at St. Adelaide’s Church from the choir to Eucharistic minister. His favorite endeavor though was playing the role of Santa Clause for many years and was unofficially deemed the Official Santa Clause of Peabody many years ago.
Besides his loving mother, Tim is survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, John J. Barry III and Kathy Barry of Reading and Kevin and Sheila Barry of North Andover, his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Michael Anderson of Newburyport and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Adelaide’s Christian Service Fund, 712 Lowell St, Peabody, MA 01960.
