Obituary of Isaura T. (Rodrigues) Couto
Isaura T. (Rodrigues) Couto, 80, formerly of Peabody, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel P. Couto, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, on February 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Manuel J. Tavares and Maria da Gloria (Rodrigues) Tavares. She was raised and educated there, prior to emigrating to the United States.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a machinist for Blayer Industries in Wakefield. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, where she attended mass regularly. Besides being devoted to her faith, she was extremely devoted to her family. She always enjoyed being in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years, she enjoyed coloring to pass the time. She will be loved and missed by all who knew here, and will be always remembered as a outgoing, strong and determined woman, with a sweet personality that grew on anyone she came in contact with.
She is survived by her children, Emanuel T. Couto, Sr. & his wife, Paula, of TX, Claude T. Couto of Lynn, Arthur T. Couto & his fiancé, Gina Brazil of Lynn, and Maria G. Couto-Yeaton & her husband, Scott of Haverhill; MA, 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jose Tavares of Peabody, Armando Tavares of Groveland, and Gabriel Tavares of Canada, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October, 17, from 4-8P.M., at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 18, at 8:00A.M. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, at 9:00A.M. She will be laid to rest, alongside her husband, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA, 01844.
