Obituary of Kenneth K. Szaban

Kenneth K. Szaban, 82, of Peabody, died early Tuesday morning at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Lydia (Micalchuk) Szaban with whom she shared over 44 years of marriage. Born in Belarus, Russia, he was the son of the late Nicolai and Elena Szaban. He was raised in Russia and was a member of the Russian Army. During World War II, he was captured by the German Army and was held as a Prisoner of War for four years. After the War, he immigrated to Canada were he lived for over fourteen years. While in Canada, he worked as a lumber jack in the Manitoba, Winnipeg Area. He then settled in Peabody, where he worked for Connolly Brothers in Beverly as a master carpenter doing finishing work. He retired in 1989 after 50 years of work in carpentry. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Black Jack and Poker and also liked playing bingo. He also enjoyed traveling to Foxwood’s and Mohegan Sun Casinos in Connecticut. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two sisters-in-law, Helen Brown of Peabody and Sonia Hamilton of Salem, his nieces and nephews, Raymond “Reggie” Hamilton and his wife Barbara of Salem, Leona Hamilton of Salem, Nadine Hamilton of Peabody, Sean Baskett of Amesbury, Mary Ann, Carol, and Michael Micalchuk, all of Peabody, John Bollettiero of Beverly, Michael Bollettiero of Salem and Jeannette Dash of Danvers. She also survived by his dear friends, Theresa Pellitier and George Lamonica, both of Peabody. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Salem, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a Panikhida Service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St., Salem, MA 01970.
