Obituary of Anselmo da Cunha Silva

Anselmo da Cunha Silva, 78, of Peabody, died early Tuesday evening at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Maria da Luz (Cipriano) da Cunha Silva. Born in Santa Cruz, Graciosa, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel Germano and Carlota Isabel (da Cunha) da Silva. He was raised and educated in Portugal before he immigrated to the United States in 1967. He has been a resident of Peabody for the past 39 years. He worked in the Leather Industry for over 25 years, retiring in 1993 from Henry’s Leather in Peabody. He also was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, and he also enjoyed gardening. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Natalino and Olinda Silva of Peabody, a brother, Jose da Cunha Silva of Peabody, two sisters, Maria da Conceicao Bettencourt of Peabody and Maria Benigna Terra of Providence, Rhode Island, a granddaughter, Sonia and her husband Jose DelValle of Peabody, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Humberto da Cunha Silva. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215
