Obituary of James T Moroney

James J Moroney, 80, of Hathorne, died unexpectedly on Tuesday at his home.  He was the devoted and beloved husband of Jane E (Brudzynski) Moroney.  

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William and Kathryn (Wodarski) Moroney.  He was a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, class of 1956 and continued his education at Salem Teacher’s College and received his BS degree in 1960. 

Jim taught for one year after graduating from college and then enlisted with the United States Army in 1961 and was stationed in Korea for two years before his honorable discharge in 1963.  Upon his discharge from the Army, Jim married the love of his life, Jane E Brudzynski, with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage.

Jim was employed with Sears as a salesman in the auto center in Salem and Peabody. He also worked as a real estate agent in Salem.  Upon his retirement from Sears, he enjoyed wintering in Naples, Fl. 

Jim was very active in the community he lived in, he was a long-time Babe Ruth Coach in Peabody and served as a Babe Ruth District 1 Commissioner as well.  He played for many years with the Maple Leaf fast pitch softball team in Salem, and while in high school, he played varsity basketball.  He also was a long-time member of the Polish Russian Lithuania Club in Danvers.   

Besides his loving wife Jane, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas J and Janet Moroney of Stow, and by his sister, Sr. Anne Marie Moroney of NJ, and by his niece, nephew and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 9:15 until 11:15 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Danvers to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.  Expressions of sympathy can be made to either the Polish Russian Lithuania Club, 12 Cheever St, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Salem State University Alumni Association, 352 Lafayette St, Salem, MA 01970.
