Obituary of Micheline Vareika
Peabody – Micheline (Joachim) Vareika 84, beloved wife of the late Donald C. Vareika, died Thursday, November 7, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Brussels, Belgium, she was the daughter of the late Marcel and Marie Josette (Horion) Joachim.
Mrs. Vareika pursued medical studies at Louvain University in Belgium and obtained a Masters Degree in French Litterature from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. As a Professor of French, she taught primary, secondary and college levels in numerous schools including West Memorial in Peabody, Tower School in Marblehead and St. Paul’s Choir School in Cambridge.
A longtime resident of Peabody, Mrs. Vareika was a communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church in West Peabody and was the founder and former president of Faith & Concern, a non-profit organization in Peabody. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Michael Vareika and his wife, Anne, residing in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, her four grandchildren, Marie-Alicia, Christopher, Catherine and Jonathan, her adopted son, Delis Etienne and her brother, Jean-Michel Joachim. She was also the sister of the late Pierre Joachim.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody, Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A visitation will be held at the Church prior to the Mass on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody.
