Obituary of George S. Giannias
George S. Giannias, 61, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Peabody on Friday.
George was born on June 28, 1958, in Arfara, Kalamata, Greece son of the late Sotirios Giannias and Irene (Bouras) Giannias. He was raised in Greece before emigrating to the United States in 1968. He went on to attend Peabody Public Schools, and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, Class of 1977.
From a young age, George had a passion for working out and weightlifting, He excelled in a specialized martial arts form known as Uechi-Ryu, in which he successfully competed at an international level in Okinawa Japan on several different occasions. In addition to his achievements George was also a member for the Free Mason's.
George had worked as a distributor for Pepsi-Cola during his early life, most recently he was assisting his family with daily operations at The Roadhouse Pub in Peabody; in addition to his small real estate ventures. His favorite pass times included frequent motorcycle rides, Soccer, and traveling to Greece, but more importantly being surrounded by his loving family, especially his children. George will be always be remembered as a fun, loving, and loyal man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was always willing to help those who needed him. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Irene and Sotirios Giannias, of Salem; his mother, Irene Giannias, of Peabody; his siblings; Dennis Giannias of Peabody, Paula Aggelis & her husband Perry of Kalamata, Greece, Georgia Giannias-Noe of Peabody; his nieces and nephews, Joanna Sigalos, Kosta & Sotirios Aggelis, and Peter Noe, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Beside his father, he was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Sydney Noe.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, from 4-7P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 20, at 9 A.M. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St, Peabody. He will be laid to rest in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made is his name to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
