Obituary of Eileen V Chmiel

Eileen V. (Burkinshaw) Chmiel 79, passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2019 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Eileen entered into God’s kingdom in a state of grace, joining her beloved husband, Alfred Chmiel, her parents, Chester and Ruth Eileen Burkinshaw, siblings Robert Burkinshaw, James Burkinshaw and Barbara Roby.

Eileen was a student at St. James High School in Salem, class of 1958, after which time she pursued a degree as a licensed practical nurse at the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Eileen finished her nursing program at the Hunt Hospital in the 1980’s and began working as at the Hunt Nursing Center in Danvers.

For many years, Eileen delivered newspapers for the Boston Globe, Salem News and Beverly Times prior to her retirement in 2004.

In her younger years, Eileen was an avid traveler and spent time traveling in the continental U.S.  in many different states with her family. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends and was an active member and participant at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly. Eileen also enjoyed going to concerts and shows with her favorites being Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban and Celine Dion. In more recent years, Eileen enjoyed spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren Justin and Cayden and enjoyed her dream trip to Ireland in 2017.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Chmiel and his wife, Diane of Marblehead, Jason Chmiel and his wife, Lynda of Lakeland, FL, Erin Chmiel-Hudson and her husband, Andrew of Danvers and Ryan Chmiel and his wife, Jessica of Ipswich, three grandchildren, Angela Chmiel, Justin Hudson and Cayden Chmiel and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved cats and companions, Samantha and Minnie who stayed by her side constantly and provided comfort in her final days.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers, on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.  Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
