Obituary of Sebastian M. Couceiro

Sebastian M. Couceiro, 59, of Peabody, died Thursday afternoon at Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of Josephine (Souza) Couceiro of Peabody and the late Manuel Couceiro. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody, attended Peabody Public Schools and was a graduate of Bishop Fenwich High School. He enlisted with the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and was Honorable Discharged as a Lance Corporal in August of 1968. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a Disabled American Veteran and was a life member of the DAV. He also was a member the Portuguese-American War Veterans Club, Portuguese Continental Union and the Veterans of Foreign War. Post 1011, all in Peabody. He also was a life member of the Marine Corps League. He also enjoyed volunteering his time to the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Scout Master in Peabody. Besides his loving mother, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jessica Couceiro of Ft. Stewart, GA., two daughters and a son-in-law, Samantha and Hank McLaughlin of Beverly and Michele Freeman of Peabody, his nephew, James Carbone of Peabody, his aunt and uncle, Joseph and Rose Jorge of Salem, and is also survived by his seven grandchildren, and several cousins. He was the brother of the late Lorraine Carbone. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
