Obituary of John F Quartarone

John F. Quartarone, 92, of Salem, died peacefully Tuesday evening surrounded by his family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a long illness.  He was the devoted husband of the late Jennie (Nickola) Quartarone with whom he shared over 71 years of marriage and who passed this last August.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Frank and Philomena (Pardo) Quartarone.  He was a lifelong resident of Salem and a graduate of Salem High School.  Upon graduating from high school, John enlisted with the United States Navy and served during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Following the war, John started working as a milkman for Puleo, West Lynn Creamery, and left that industry in 1978 as a supervisor for Sunnyhurst in Stoneham.  He continued working as maintenance supervisor at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem before he finally retired in 1989.

Upon his retirement, John enjoyed traveling the country and golfing and was a member of the Olde Salem Greens.  He also was a member of the Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly and the Hamilton Wenham Gun Club as well.

John is survived by his son, David P. Quartarone of Salem, his brother Frank Puleo of Wilmington, his sister, Lucy Corcoran of Peabody and by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his loving wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Rosario Puleo, Rocco Scarfino, Joseph Quartarone, Larry Puleo, Angelina “Jean” Kaminski, Mary Garro, Grace Puleo, Margaret Turcotte and Jennie Marmen.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, Federal St, Salem to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.  Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
