Reading the tributes, the Peabody School District’s announcement of Cara’s passing and the responses from the community, it’s clear that she hasn’t changed a bit since our college days. She was always - always! - caring, friendly, responsible, and fun! She had more school spirit than just about anyone on campus and it was contagious. Cara simply had one of the best and most memorable personalities!
What a blessing it is that Cara went into education! I can only imagine the hundreds, if not thousands, of young lives she touched and those who’ve become their best selves by simply knowing Cara.
Sending my deepest sympathy to Cara’s family, friends, colleagues and students.
Maurin O’Grady, Emmanuel College Class of 1997

I can only echo what many others have already said about Cara. From someone who knew her for several years, she was all about the students and community of Peabody. While we all know Peabody has lost a dedicated educator and wonderful person, so has the larger educational community. Her passion and devotion for education and how it can transform lives will be her enduring legacy. My deepest sympathies to all of Cara's friends and family in Peabody and beyond. She will be missed but her good works remain and inspirational example will live on. She cared and we all knew it.

I was fortunate to know Cara since she as a child. Growing up she was full of life and always had a wonderfully great smile. Her enthusiasm for life was boundless! As a educator she was superb and put all of her talents to great use in benefiting all students. However, being a real and sincere person was her top quality! You and your family should be proud of all the good you have done. I am proud in being able to call her a very close friend. May your Father (Jack) greet and welcome you at the gates of heaven. We will miss you.

Cara was an amazing woman, who touched so many hearts. My children went to the Kiley, where they were fortunate to have Mr. Murtagh as their Principal. Cara filled her Father’s shoes and brought her career to the epitome of her dreams at such an early age. He was always so very proud of her. She went above and beyond! She attended all the Veteran’s Breakfasts and always took the time to chat with me and my husband! There is no one that will ever be able to fill her shoes! You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Cara was constantly visible, accessible, friendly, accommodating, and supportive. As a fellow educator, I recognized how special she was when she was principal of Carroll School when my child entered it in 2010. As I watched her advance quickly through the ranks of Peabody Public Schools, all the way to the position of Superintendent, it was easy to see why she garnered such success so quickly. Peabody has lost one of its most dedicated and passionate student advocates. Condolences to all of her family and friends. And from one educator to another, I say, "Thank you, Cara! I meet Cara, many years ago at the Center School and she assisted a dear friend of mine that had ALS and had a child in the school with diabetes. She did everything possible to allow her to take care of her child even though we took unconditional measures to do so. Then I had the privilege again to cross paths with her while my son played in the PVMHS band. She looked right at me and said my name and then spoke of my dear friend that passed in 2006. I could not believe that she remembered. She asked how my son, Spencer was doing. The next words she said hit me hard. Life sometimes gives you heartache to see what's important in life. Spencer will do just fine. Then she smiled and hugged me. May you fly high into the heavens above. You will be greatly missed.
