Obituary of Louis P. Girolimon

Louis P. Girolimon 94, of Peabody, loving husband of the late Carolina “Cory” (Schram) Girolimon with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Jeffrey and Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody.

 

Louis was born in Crystal Falls, MI, on February 20, 1925, son of Mario and Rose C. (Dal Pozzol) Girolimon. Raised and educated in Peabody, he graduated from Peabody High School in 1942. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on May 20, 1943, serving as a Tec 5. He landed at Omaha Beach on June 18, 1944 and was awarded 4 battle stars. He was honorably discharged on February 26, 1946.

 

Louis was the first Italian descendant to join the Peabody Police Department as a reservist in 1952 and was appointed as a permanent Peabody Police Patrolman in December of 1953. During his tenure with the department he was the desk officer and Department Armorer who issued firearm licenses until his retirement in January of 1987. Following his retirement, he joined the Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home family until 2014.

 

Louis is survived by his children, Dina R. Howcroft, and Peabody Police Sergeant Richard F. and his wife Paula Girolimon all of Peabody; his grandchildren and their spouses, Caroline Talbot and Retired State Trooper Brian Talbot of New Hampshire, Nicole and Allan Arico, Frederick L. Howcroft, Diana and Corey Ricardo, Hamilton Patrolman Michael Girolimon, and Danielle Girolimon and her husband James DiGianvittorio all of Peabody; 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Louis was a Gold Star father who lost his son Lance Corporal Louis M. Girolimon who was killed in Vietnam on June 10, 1968. He was also predeceased by his parents, his sisters Gloria Sahk and Clara D’Amico, and his son-in-law Frederick Howcroft.

 

His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 18th at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn Street, Peabody. Burial will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
