Stanley J. Marchewka
TOPSFIELDStanley J. Marchewka, 88, beloved husband of Mariba (Markuith) Marchewka of Topsfield, died unexpectedly on Monday morning at the Masconomet Health Center in Topsfield following a brief illness.
Born in Lebanon, NH, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Brodskoski) Marchewka. He lived there in his youth and attended schools there, where he was the only Freshman named to the All New Hampshire State Football Team.
He was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Army. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatres, and part of the Phillippines Liberation.
He was employed in the leather tanneries which brought him to Peabody, where he met his wife, and lived on the North Shore for the last 63 years. He was employed with Fermon Leather for most of that time until his retirement about 22 years ago. He lived in Peabody for 43 years, then in Topsfield for the last 18 years.
Mr. Marchewka was a gifted athlete, and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He belonged to several bowling leagues in Peabody, Lynn, and Danvers. He enjoyed Billiards, Casino gamingespecially Poker; was fond of the outdoors, loved fishing, his duties as a Cook in the Army, was a member of the St. Michael’s Club of Peabody, the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1409 of Peabody, watching Western TV shows, and enjoyed his role as loving husband, father and especially grandfather.
He will be missed by his family and friends, including: his wife Mariba (Markuith) Marchewka of Topsfield, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; two daughters and a son-in-law, Paula & Peter Koczur of Topsfield and Rosanne Marchewka of Beverly; one granddaughter, Brooke Marchewka of Beverly; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Madeleine Marchewka of Lebanon, NH; a sister, Stacia Jackson of Lebanon, NH, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Edward Marchewka and an infant Joseph Marchewka, and sisters Vera Zerba and Ethel Jarvis.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers.
