Obituary of Thomas Lee Harkins

Thomas Lee “Tucker” Harkins, 79, of Peabody, died Saturday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Janyce (Cody) (Martin) Harkins with whom she shared over 38 years of marriage Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Journee) Harkins. He was a life-long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1959. Following his graduation, he enlisted with the United States Air Force and served until his honorable discharge in 1963. Following his discharge from the military, Tucker embarked on a 30-year career for the Peabody Municipal Electric Light as store and stock keeper before retiring years ago. Tucker enjoyed playing baseball, woodworking, and going to Point Sebago Lake in Maine during the summer months. His also enjoyed attended the annual Jimmy Fund Game at Emerson Park between the Peabody Police and the pro athletes, but his favorite endeavor was spending time with his family and later his grandchildren and sharing in all of their activities. He will be dearly missed by all. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lisa Harkins and Michael and Maureen Martin all of Peabody, his three daughters and sons-in-law, Karlyne and Anthony Furnari, Theresa and Richard Lynch, and Buffy and Tom Gately all of Peabody, and is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Harkins. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Cops for Kids with Cancer C/O Peabody Police Station, 6 Allens Lane, Peabody, MA 01960.
