Obituary of Joan M. Slattery

Joan M. (Sarowsky) Slattery, 81, of Danvers, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Putnam Farms Senior Living, Danvers. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Slattery. She was born in Salem, MA on October 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Paul and Jane (Mizioch) Sarowsky and had resided in Middleton for many years before moving to Danvers. Joan was a clerk in the purchasing department at Beverly Hospital for over 20 years prior to her retirement in 1997. She enjoyed playing golf and traveling to Vermont and Daytona Beach, Florida. She was gifted with making crafts and playing the organ. She was a very kind, generous and warm person and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by a step-son and his wife, Charles H. Slattery Jr. and Margaret “Mickey” Slattery of Pelham, NH, her sisters, Mary Ann Stasinos, care giver and friend of Danvers and Vicki Materkowski of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Julie Materkowski of Amesbury, MA, Her nephews, James and Michael Materkowski and her nieces, Crystal and Angela Materkowski, a special great niece Jane Murphy and many other grand nieces and nephews and a dear friend. Lorraine Gerniglia. She was the aunt of the late Robin Sullivan. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Putnam Farms as well as Care Dimensions for all the care , comfort and support given to Joan and her family during these past months. A Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
