Obituary of Edith J Manninen

Edith J. Manninen, 94, of Peabody and formerly of Lynnfield, died Monday morning, January 27th surrounded by her loving family at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was a WWII bride and the devoted wife of the late George O. Manninen, Sr. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Delia (Gaouette) Newbury. She was raised and educated on the North Shore and attended Peabody High School. Edith was a dedicated and loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. After her children were grown, Edith began working for Anton Cleaners in North Reading as an Assistant Manager and in her earlier years was a waitress at the former Town Line Restaurant in Lynnfield. Upon her retirement, she moved to North Port, FL where she lived for 10 years before moving back to Lynnfield Center Village where she lived for nearly 20 years. While living in Lynnfield, she enjoyed going to the Lynnfield Senior Center where she loved playing bingo and volunteering at their thrift shop. She is survived by her two sons, Frederick and his wife Wendy Manninen of Gloucester and George Manninen, Jr of Seabrook, NH, her three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bruce Thayer of Newburyport, Jude and Buz Partaledis of Lynnfield and Jan and Richard Jodoin of Hanover, NH, her brother John W. Newbury of Peabody and his wife Rose Marie. Edith was Aunt of many nieces and nephews and the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Dorothy Armstrong, Grace Ryer and Ruth Rich. Following cremation, a Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2pm at the West Church, 27 Johnson Street, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Church in Edith’s memory, 27 Johnson Street, Peabody, MA 01960.
