Obituary of James W. Britt

James W. Britt PEABODY James W. Britt, 58, beloved husband of Linda (Jackson) Britt, of Ellsworth Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday afternoon following a brief illness Born in Port Jervis, NY, he was the son of the late William P. and Agnes I. (Guthrie) Britt. He lived there in his youth and attended schools there. He graduated from Port Jervis High School, and New York University, Class of 1967. He soon entered the United States Air Force, where he served as a Captain during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his return to the US, he lived in Florida and Pennsylvania, and settled in Peabody where he lived for the last 27 years. Mr. Britt was an Electrical Engineer, working for a variety of companies. He most recently worked with Datum T T & M in Beverly, but was also employed with Varian, Honeywell-Bull, Compugraphic/AGFA, Opus Telecom, and ATCom. He was very involved in his profession, not only as a member of IEEE, but having served as a Past President and Chair of the North Shore sub-section Chapter, and the Boston Chapter. He received a Third (3rd) Millenium Medal for Outstanding Achievement and Contributions in 2000, served on the Board for Electro, the title of an Engineering Conference in Boston and formerly New York, was a member and State Photographer for the American Association of University Women (AAUW), was a member of Gold’ s in Danvers where he loved playing Tennis, and he enjoyed the art of photography. He is survived by: his wife, Linda (Jackson) Britt of Peabody, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Britt-Jackson & Phil Jackson of Rockland, MA; two brothers, Bill Britt of Smithtown, Long Island, NY and Terry Britt of Wallingford, PA; a sister-in-law, Dianne Cahill of Oyster Bay, NY, and several nieces and nephews, and many friends. A Ceremony in Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. in the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St., Peabody, of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Cremation will follow the ceremony. A visitation will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 P.M. in the funeral home.
