Edite Biscaia

Obituary of Edite N. Biscaia

Edite N. (Vieira) Biscaia, 88, of Salem, MA died peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at her residence with family by her side. She was the wife of the late Casimiro P. Biscaia. She is survived by her three children, Anthony and his wife Robin Biscaia of Norfolk, MA, Paul and his wife Suzanne Biscaia of Salem, MA and Catarina Biscaia of Canton, MA, her five grandchildren, Patrick and Caitlin Sheehan, and Bill, Erin and Paige Biscaia and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elisiario and Jose Felipe Vieira, Maria Rosa Paulino and Maria das Neves Pinto. Born in Avis, Portugal on August 7, 1931, Edite was the daughter of the late Antonio F. and Margarida Rosa (das Neves) Vieira. In Portugal, she became a rural school teacher helping local children to read and write before immigrating to Massachusetts in 1967. In 1967 as a first generation immigrant with a family to support, Edite became a light bulb assembler with Osram/GTE Sylvania Company at the Loring Ave., Salem plant for 24 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed cooking and baking many amazing Portuguese soups, dishes and desserts for family, friends and neighbors, taking trips to visit family in Portugal, bus trips with friends to play the slots at Foxwoods and joining many family trips to Disney World. Edite enjoyed watching live sports such as the Olympics, gymnastics, ice skating, soccer, and following the Bruins and Patriots. Regardless of the activity, her most precious time was that spent with family. One of her happiest and reoccurring joys was sharing her birthday with first born grandchild, Patrick. Edite was immensely thankful for the care and support she received from her daughter-in-law, Suzanne for all the love, support and personal care provided in her last year. A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 10:00 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by Services there at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave. Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451, or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
