Obituary of Nicholas P. Chakoutis

Peabody – Nicholas P. Chakoutis 79, beloved husband of Kiki (Malikouzakis) Chakoutis, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the New England Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Peter and Esther (Vusvunis) Chakoutis. He received his education in the Lynn school system and graduated from Lynn Classical High School where he played football and sang in the chorus. He continued his education at the Bryant & Stratton College in Boston where he earned a degree in computers. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Coast Guard. During the War he served as an interpreter for the U.S. Government in Rhodes, Greece. Mr. Chakoutis had owned and operated two medallions for Boston Cab in Boston until the time of his retirement in 1990. Prior to that, he applied his knowledge in computers as a computer operator for Carter-Ice Paper Company, the First National Supermarket headquarters in Boston and at the former Colonial Hotel in Lynnfield. A resident of Peabody since 1964, Mr. Chakoutis was a longtime member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody and a member of its Men’s Club. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, following soccer, football, basketball and hockey. He also enjoyed following all the professional New England sports teams. He was a loving husband, father, in-law, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife with whom he shared fifty-nine years of marriage, he is survived by a daughter, Esther Arcand of Peabody, a son, Peter Chakoutis and his wife, Kathy of Hopedale, a sister, Marianne Morrissey and her family of Lynn, sisters-in-law, Kaliopi Malikouzakis and her family of New York, Irene Makikouzakis and Barbara Xanthou of Greece, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the uncle of the late Dianna Morrissey, father-in-law of the late David Arcand and brother-in-law of the late Michael Malikouzakis. His funeral service will be held at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the St. Vasilios Church Endowment Fund, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
