Obituary of Thomas W. Hames, Jr.

Thomas W. Hames, Jr. 56 years, husband of Linda A. (Mitchell) Hames of Peabody, died early Sunday morning at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Hames was born on October 31, 1948 in Lynn son of the late Thomas W. Hames Sr. and Alice E. (Cashman) Hames. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School class of 1966 and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He received a degree in construction engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston and then pursued his education at Arizona State University for 1 year and belonged to the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He also served for 6 years in the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Hames was employed as a land surveyor for most of his working career. During his high school and college years he played football, racket ball and enjoyed alpine skiing. He also loved vacationing in Arizona with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Sarah A. Hames and Bethaney M. Hames both of Peabody; a son, Matthew T. Hames of Peabody; 2 grandchildren, Christian Smatana of Salem and Darion Brown of Peabody; his mother-in-law, Margaret M. (O’ Neil) Mitchell of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Marie Boccadoro. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. As per his request there will be no visiting hours. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Make a Wish Foundation of MA, One Bulfinch Place, 2nd floor, Boston MA 02114.
