Obituary of Lillian M. (Verza) Buckley

Lillian M. (Verza) Buckley, 85, of Marblehead died Tuesday evening in Salem in the presence of her family after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Buckley with whom she shared 45 years of marriage prior to his death in 1992. She was born and raised in Peabody, the daughter of the late Louis and Teresa (Bertoldi) Verza and was a graduate of St. John’s Parochial School Peabody and Burdette Business College. She had been employed in the family business of Verza Tanning Company of Peabody prior to her marriage. She had been a member of the Salem Country Club and later at the Tedesco Country Club. She had been active in the Catholic Charities and other philanthropic endeavors on the North Shore for many years. She is survived by two sons and their families, Dr. Louis V. and Lee Buckley, MD, chief of staff at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, New London, Ct of No Stonington,Ct. and Arthur J. Buckley Jr. and Tien B. Truong of Marblehead, her grandchildren, Patricia, James, Elizabeth and Suzanne, Van-Khue, Susan, Vi, Van-Quinh and Phuong and her great grandchildren Nicholas, Melissa and Kristen; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise V. Burke-Glazer and Walter Glazer of Marblehead and Homosassa, Fl, Lucy V. Fitzgerald of Marblehead , Wilbur Peterson of Peabody, Dr. Frederick and Mary (Bugler) Buckley of Marblehead and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Linda Peterson. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility. Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 am from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
