Obituary of Julia (Picanco) da Silva

Julia (Picanco) da Silva, 86, of Peabody died early Saturday morning at the Salem Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Octavio Sousa da S ilva. She was born and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal as one of sixteen siblings and came to Peabody in 1968 settling here for the past 39 years. She had been a seamstress at the former Ideal Baby Shoe Company of Danvers for 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Azorian Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost and Our Lady of Help Society of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, sewing, gardening and cooking. She is survived by a son, Dr. Milton da Silva of Peabody, a sister, Alzira Bettencourt of Peabody, 3 sister-in-laws, Maria Gil and Norberta Picanco both of Peabody and Julietta da Silva of the Azores and several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the new 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
