Obituary of Manuel G. Ortins
Manuel G. Ortins, 90, of Peabody, passed away early Tuesday morning at
Sutton Hill Center in Andover, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of
the late Theresa (Bettencourt) Ortins, who passed away in 1992.
Manuel was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Gregorio and Rose
(Silva) Ortins. He was raised and educated there until emigrating to Peabody in 1955.
Prior to his retirement in 1992, he had worked as a machine operator for B.A.S.F. in
Bedford. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the
Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, the Clube de Luis Camoes, and the Banda
Recreativa, all in Peabody. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing. He will be greatly missed
by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Albert Ortins and his wife Stephanie of CA; a daughterin-
law, Doreen Ortins of Salem, MA; his grandchildren, Samuel, Maggie, Luke, and Ben
Ortins; and his brother, Antonio Ortins. He was predeceased by his son, Roy Ortins, and
sisters, Evelyn Cunha and Elza Bettencourt.
