Obituary of Hollis H Ball

Hollis H Ball, 77, of Peabody, passed peacefully on Sunday April 12 at the Mass General Hospital in Boston following complications from diabetes, heart failure and lung cancer. He was the devoted husband of Rose Marie (Corriveau) Ball with whom he shared over 56 years of marriage. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Rodger and Edith (Haggstrom) Ball. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. He has lived in Peabody for the past 55 years. Following his graduation from high school, Hollis enlisted with the United States Army and served for over 2 years before his honorable discharge in 1962. Upon discharge from the military, Hollis began a 50-year career as a Brick Layer doing masonry work for Local 3 Brick Layer Union. Hollis loved playing cards; especially poker and he won many poker tournaments at Foxwoods Casino. More recently, he played poker at the Encore Casino. In his younger days, he enjoyed teaching ballroom dancing, fishing, hunting, and camping with his family and friends. Besides his loving wife, Hollis is survived by his loving daughter and devoted son-in-law, Charlene and Robert "Bobby" McKenzie of Peabody, his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Clint Newell of Peabody and Barbara and Howard Remon of Danvers, his cousin Lillian “Cookie” Aborjaily of Salisbury, many nieces and nephews as well as Hunter, Trevor and Lindsey whom he loved as his grandchildren, family friend Betty Jean Panopoulos and his two grand dogs, Ruby and Foxy. His sister Dale Dennis, and his brother-in-law Philip Corriveau predeceased him. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his name to the MGH Cancer Center in Danvers and/or American Diabetes Association.
