Obituary of Arnalda Oliveira Bettencourt

Arnalda Oliveira (Mota) Bettencourt, 81, of Peabody, died Monday morning at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Jose dos Reis Bettencourt. Born in Sao Jorge, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose Pereira and Maria (Oliveira) Mota. She was raised in Portugal and later immigrated to the United States in 1979 and has been a resident of Peabody for the past 41 years. She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Society as well. She also enjoyed cooking and crocheting, and her favorite endeavor was spending time with her family. Arnalda is survived by her four children and their spouses, her four sisters, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A private family service was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem.
