Obituary of Georgia J Southwick

Peabody – Georgia Southwick, “Nana G”, was born on April 13, 1923 and passed away at the Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the age of 97. She was the daughter of Anthony and Jeanette Mallia and was one of eleven children. She was born in Middlebury, Vermont. Georgia was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1941. She worked at Peabody City Hall and raised her two children with Al Boraiza; daughter Janice (Boraiza) Regis, wife of Mario Regis, Jr. and son Dennis Boraiza, husband of Heidi Boraiza. She remarried in 1968 to George Southwick where they shared 16 years together before he passed. Georgia was an avid shopper, she loved line dancing, playing cards with her sisters and traveling to Florida and Las Vegas. She was a member of the Line Dancing group, the Starlights, where she performed at the Topsfield Fair. Even with all her activities, she was most happy when she was with her family. Nothing was more important to Nana G than her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She played an active role in all their lives and made such an impression on each of them. She adoringly leaves behind four grandchildren: Christopher Regis, his girlfriend Yvonne Halunen, Lisa (Regis) Davis, Matthew Boraiza and his fiancée Vicki Zagdan-Gross and Nicole (Boraiza) Pulcini, her husband Christian and 5 great-grandchildren, Luke, Olivia, Juliette Georgia, Henry, and Alice. Georgia was known for her big, beautiful smile. She spent her last years at the Brudnick Center where she at one time lived with 4 of her siblings: Mary, Lucy, Carmen and Larry. Their story prompted national media coverage of “Five Siblings Under the Same Roof”. She was grateful to the Center for their care and love and her family will always be indebted to the 4th floor staff. She is predeceased by her sister Mary Cena and her husband Guido; Marguerite Cullen and her husband Bill; Carmen Wesala and her husband Elmer (Wes); bothers George Mallia and his wife Tina; Larry Mallia and his wife Catherine (Tina); Johnny Mallia and his wife Lorraine, and her brothers, Tony, Sam and Joe as well as a brother-in-law, John O’Brien. She is survived by one sister, Lucy O’Brien and one sister-in-law Gracie Mallia (wife of Tony), as well as many nieces and nephews. We know she was greeted into heaven by her best friend and closest sister, Mary who passed away in 2019. Her funeral services were private. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Contributions may be made in her memory to No Child Goes Hungry, 52 Ellsworth Rd., Peabody, MA 01960 or Brudnick Center for Living, 240 Lynnfield St., Peabody, MA 01960.
