Obituary of John T. Berube

It is with great sadness that the family of John T. Berube announce his passing from complications of the COVID-19 virus on April 17, 2020. He was 87 years old. John was a devoted husband and father, and an incredible grandfather. He was a man that led a wonderful life with his wife Lee, was uncompromisingly faithful to God, and served his Country well. His easy going and good nature radiated to all those who knew him. John grew up in Peabody MA and joined the Navy right out of High School. He was a precursor of todays Navy Seals, an underwater welder for the destroyer ship- the USS Gatling. He was a proud Veteran of the Korean war. An area businessman, John owned and operated dry cleaning stores in Danvers and Peabody, Sunbeam Cleaners and Modern Cleaners for many years. After retiring from the dry cleaning business, he returned to his love of the ocean as a lobsterman in Beverly, and owned and operated his own boat the Myra Helen, as well as owned and operated the Beverly Seafood Center with his family. John also was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of a 4th degree Knight in service to God and the Community. John shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Lee, and was a loving father to his children and their spouses Cheryl (Berube) Sawchuk and her husband Greg, Eleanor (Berube) Mack and her husband Jay, John Jr. and Michele. He was a devoted grandfather to his precious grandchildren- Nicholas, Christopher, Andrew, Matthew, Deborah, Dianah and Anthony. A private ceremony will be held with the Immediate family at Cedar Grove Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
