Obituary of James Scarimontios

James Scarimontios, 70, a lifelong resident of Peabody, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 28 after a courageous battle with a Stage IV glioblastoma (GBM). His loving son and caregiver Charles Edward Scarimontios was by his side through it all. Born on Nov 25, 1949, he was the son of the late Charles & Jennie (Douramakos) Scarimontios (Scarmoutzos) and predeceased by his sister, Stephanie, and former wife, Mary (Roy) Carson. He was a graduate of Peabody High, Class of ’67, and a member of the Varsity hockey team. After a knee injury his playing days were over, but his love of sports persisted. He had one of the most knowledgeable minds when it came down to who should win and why. Before retiring as a licensed operator at South Essex Sewerage District he was an award-winning leather finisher and Master Color Matcher. Making him a literal and figurative Peabody Tanner. For him, playing the game of golf was only part of the experience; the social aspects and natural surroundings were equally important. Which allowed him more time and locations for another of his passions, bird watching. He also enjoyed Drum & Bugle Corp competitions (Go Boston Crusaders!) and watching National Geographic. He left behind many family and friends including his daughter Lynne and her son Matteo Charlie Scarimontios, his devoted sister Ann Patten of Magnolia, his nephew the Honorable Judge Michael Patten, his wife Carlotta (McCarthy) & sons Jack & Brady, his nephew Stephen Patten, his wife Lindsey & children Allysen & Luke and his dear cousin, Billy Douramakos. Also, two of his best friends, his brother in law, Ed Roy and his wife Linda, with whom he enjoyed annual golfing trips to Myrtle Beach and camping. James had many aliases; Scara, Jim S, Jimbo, Dad and Papou to name a few. He was always known as a kind, caring and generous person that anyone could fall in love with. As a result, his extended family was larger than just Charles’ partner, Lina Rietkerk of Toronto and Mary’s two daughters Meredith (Carson) Faulstick, her husband Joe & son Christian and Emily (Carson) Verrocchio, her husband Anthony & daughters, Addison & Elsie. He was also Uncle Jimmy to Michelle (Ottati) Davis, Toni-Marie (Otatti) Beaule, Mark and Amy Richardson. This partial list of family is further complimented by the countless friends who included him as part of their families. And for all his oldest friends, “The East End Kids”, you have lost one of your best way too early. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held (Time and Location TBD this summer). Donations can be made in his name to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
