Obituary of Joyce P. Nelson

Peabody - Joyce P. Nelson, 75, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. A life-long resident of Peabody, she was a 1962 graduate of Peabody H.S. After attending Salem State (College) University, Joyce taught English for 40 years in the Peabody Public Schools at the Kennedy Jr. H.S. and later at Higgins Middle School. For many years Joyce also worked as a greeter at the House of Seven Gables in Salem. She was an avid tennis player and fan of all the Boston sports teams, particularly the Red Sox and Patriots. Joyce also loved to travel and was always accompanied by her late sister Barbara. Their journeys took them to many countries in Europe and the Caribbean islands. She loved animals and most recently enjoyed the company of her faithful companion, Eliot. Joyce was the daughter of the late Horace and Margaret (Dunne) Nelson of Peabody, and sister of the late Barbara J. Nelson. She is survived by her cousin, Bruce E. Nelson, his wife Martha and their daughters, Amy and Laurie, and her cousin, Linda (Nelson) Grillo and her husband, Larry. Joyce is also survived by several devoted friends including Sandra Kruczkowski, and Rosemarie Grillo. Normally, the family would welcome the support of her many friends, former colleagues and former students during visitation and church services. However, due to current restrictions on social gatherings mandated by the Covid-19 pandemic, private services will be held. A celebration of life for Joyce will be held in the future.
