Obituary of Chester "Chet" Rubin

Chester “Chet” Rubin, 85, of Peabody, died early Monday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Helen (Sedlak) Rubin with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Antoni and Apolonia (Ugolowicz) Rubin. He was raised and educated in Salem and later moved to Peabody. He was first employed with Verza Tanning, then for Borden Chemical for 25 years and finally after 10 years, he retired from the Salem Hospital Pharmacy. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan, and loved high school sports, especially high school football. He was one of the founding members of the Bishop Fenwick Football Booster Club and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council #508 in Peabody, and enjoyed traveling. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Patricia Rubin of Nova Scotia, Canada, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pauline and her late husband, Robert Fournier of Peabody, Marcia and Pete Collado of Idaho, and Laura and Michael Connery of Peabody. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kristina, Andre, Melissa, Eric, Leanne, Alex, Jillian, Paul, and Jan, as well as five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jack, John, and Edward Rubin and Stella Gill. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center, 77 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 or a charity of one’s choice.
