Obituary of Richard A. Mendes
Richard A. Mendes, 65, of Middleton, formerly of Peabody, passed away on May 16, at the North Shore Medical Center-Salem Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dorene (Crean) Mendes, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Richard was born on December 10, 1954, in Peabody, son of the late Anthony and Doris Elsie (Augusto) Mendes. He was raised and educated in Peabody.
Richard had worked as Deputy Superintendent from the Essex County Correctional Facility, and most recently retired as a reserve Patrolman from the Middleton Police Department. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Police Association.
The most important aspect of Richard’s life, was his family. He always loved being in the presence of family, whether it was a getting everyone together for a family gathering, or taking a trip to Aruba, a place he loved visiting. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife and middle school sweetheart, Dorene; his daughter, Amelia; his sister, Corrine and her husband Joe Cronin, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and his very close friends, Tommy and Patty Bettencourt.
Due to current CDC guidelines, services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Dr #1389, Danvers, MA 01923.
