Obituary of Marianna Szalkowski

Marianna Szalkowski passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 16th. She rejoins her infant son John and loving husband Zygmunt Szalkowski of 73 years on the date of their wedding anniversary. Babci, as she is known among her family, is survived by her six daughters, Barbara Mendonsa, Teresa Pepe, Yadzia Szalkowski, Mary Rodriguez, Irene Boudreault, and Christine Marshall along with their spouses, her 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Adam, Christopher, Anthony, Krystina, Nicholas, David, Stephen, Kathryn, Nicole, Andrea, and Matthew, and her two great grandchildren, Lily and Abby. Marianna was born in Poland in 1928, along with her two siblings. There she met Zygmunt where they began their family before moving to America in 1959. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, and cooking traditional Polish foods for her large family. For many years she was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s in Peabody and after their closing she was a member of the St. John’s Church in Salem. Marianna took frequent trips back to Poland to visit with family and friends who she continued to keep in close contact with over the years. She always enjoyed bringing family together, and her home was the center of our holidays. Her family will continue to carry on her traditions to keep her spirit alive. She will be deeply missed by family and all who knew her. Her family finds comfort in knowing she ahs been reunited with Zygmunt once again. A private Funeral Service was held on Thursday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
