Obituary of Helen Adamopoulos

PEABODY - Helen (Farfaras) Adamopoulos, 93, of Peabody passed away peacefully early Monday morning, May 18, 2020 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. She was the loving wife of the late James P. Adamopoulos with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Born in New York City on February 5, 1927, Helen was the daughter of the late Christos and Mary (Theophilopoulos) Farfaras. Upon her father’s passing when she was 3 years old, she moved with her mother and brother to Ipswich, MA. Helen was raised in Ipswich and attended and graduated Ipswich schools. Helen loved Ipswich and often reminisced about growing up there and all of the happy times spent with her family and friends. Throughout her years living in Ipswich, she was a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. She also taught Sunday School in neighboring communities which at that time was taught all in Greek. Helen worked at Sylvania Electric Production in Ipswich for 15 years. After marrying her husband Jimmy, they moved to Peabody where she had resided for almost 67 years. She later worked at the Peabody School Cafeteria where she retired. Helen was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and she was also a member of the Logganiko Society as well as the Order of the Eastern Star-Victory Chapter, Marblehead, MA. Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family which was first and foremost. She especially enjoyed shopping and going out to lunch with her daughter, going to Salem Willows with family and friends and summer vacations years ago at Old Orchard Beach, ME. At her home, Helen hosted many holidays and gatherings. Everyone loved Helen’s cooking and baking, especially all of the delicious Greek food and pastries she made. She made everyone feel welcome in her home any time they dropped by and she always made sure the candy dish was full. Helen is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Thomas Pappas and her cherished grandson, Yanni Demetrios Pappas all of Peabody. Yanni brightened up his Yiayia’s every day and she was so proud of him. Helen will be greatly missed as a kind and treasured aunt, godmother, cousin and friend and most of all, as an adored, loved and giving mother and grandmother. Surviving her also are many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Besides her parents and her husband Jimmy who predeceased her on August 5, 2007, Helen is also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Christine Farfaras. Due to the pandemic, her funeral service will be held privately at St. Vasilios Church in Peabody on Tuesday, May 26th followed by a burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
