Obituary of James J. Snow, Jr.

James J. Snow, Jr., 78, of Peabody, passed away Tuesday evening at his residence, following a brief battle with Leukemia. He was the loving husband of Marie (Jacques) Snow, with whom he shared 42 wonderful years of marriage. Jim was born in Boston, MA, on September 11, 1941, son of the late James J. Snow, Sr., and Bridget (Gallagher) Snow. Prior to his retirement, he had worked as an insurance underwriter for various insurance companies and agencies. One of the most important aspects of his life, was his catholic faith. He was an extremely devout catholic and never missed mass, regardless of where he was or what he was doing. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Parish Council, and was also a member of the choir. He was also a longtime member of the Third Order of Mary. He also participated in bowling leagues, and enjoyed watching New England sports teams, such as the Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Jim was a very involved father and family man. When his son Jim played in Little League baseball and was a Boy Scout, he was always there supporting him. He had a great love for this country, a country that his parents immigrated to looking for a better life. He also had a great love for greyhounds, having rescued a few over the years. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife of 42 years, he is survived by his son, James Snow III and his wife Jennifer of Beverly; his grandchildren, James Snow IV, Kayla Snow, Abigail Snow; a sister, Eleanor Barreda of Peabody; nieces and nephews, Michael Barreda, Susan Hunt, John Barreda, and Anne Underbrink, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Joan Rogers. A private funeral mass was held in St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970 or donate blood at any American Red Cross Blood Donation Center.
