Obituary of Francis J Kilroy, Jr

Francis J Kilroy, Jr, of Salem and formerly of Lynn, died unexpectedly on Sunday at his home. He was the beloved husband of Darla A Kilroy with whom he shared over 15 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Francis J Kilroy, Sr, and Jean C (Griffin) Kilroy. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Francis continued his criminal justice education at NSCC receiving an associate degree, and proceeded to Springfield College to receive his B.S. degree in Human Science in 2004 Frank was an accomplished machinist at General Electric in Lynn, and was later Deputized by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, working in multiple capacities and had retired a few years ago as a Substance Abuse Counselor at the Essex County Jail in Middleton. Frank was chosen for the 7th Annual Boston Celtics “Hero’s among Us” award, for saving a women’s in Danvers in 2003, that was presented at the Boston Celtics game in June 2004. He also received recognition from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, and the State Senate Official Citation for the same act of bravery in 2004 Frank was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, he proudly completed the 2009 Amica Marathon running the 26.2 miles during a northeaster storm in Newport, RI, and enjoyed fishing as well. He was a Friend of Bill W and was a published poet who received awards from the International Who’s Who of Poetry, for the poems titled, Underclass World and The Iraq Plaque. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his son Shane Michael Kilroy, his daughter, Kelcee Ann Kilroy, his two sisters, Robyn Dempsey and Kelly Kilroy, his beloved three grandchildren, Izaya Franklin, Meliyah Degado, and Connor Kilroy, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer.
