Obituary of Arnold I Cohan

Arnold I Cohan, 89, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Tuesday morning at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Janet (Rudolph) Cohan with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late George and Reda (Freier) Cohan. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1949. Arnold was a veteran of the Korean War who enlisted with the United States Navy in 1953 and served for two years aboard the USS Bennington until his honorable discharge in 1955. Following his discharge, Arnold enrolled at Northeastern University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1959. He began his 40- year career as an Electrical Engineer, first at the MITRE Corporation in Bedford and later at Digital Corporation in Maynard. His work included doing research and development for the US Government and working on several secretive projects over the years. The most notable project he worked on was the Stealth Bomber. Besides his loving wife, Arnold is survived by his two sons, Al Cohan and Marty Cohan and his wife Linda, all of Peabody, his daughter, Debra and her husband Thomas Richard of Millville, his beloved five grandchildren, Sean and his wife Laura Cohan, Kelli and her husband Ryan Gill, Kevin Richard, and Gabriella and Nicholas Cohan, his 4 great grandchildren, McKenna and Kale Cohan, and Declan and Connor Gill and is also survived by his niece Ellen Kent of AZ. He was predeceased by his brother, Ted Cohan. A Private graveside services was held on Friday at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
