Obituary of Phyllis A. Carlson

Peabody - Phyllis Anne (Russell) Carlson, 91, of Laredo, Texas passed away on June 6, 2020 in hospice care. Phyllis, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Lucey) Russell was born in Danvers, Massachusetts on May 20, 1929. She graduated from St John’s Catholic School in Peabody, and from Salem State College with a BS in Education, she then taught at the Samuel Brown School in Peabody, MA. Phyllis was the wife of the late Wayne C. Carlson. They were married in 1954 and moved to Schenectady, New York. She taught in the Niskayuna School District for 27 years. After retiring, Phyllis lived in Vero Beach, Florida for a short time before returning to Peabody, Massachusetts. She has lived with her daughter in Laredo, TX for the past ten years. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter Susan, Joe Martinez, and caregiver Sylvia Flores. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, entertaining, dancing, singing, sewing, art projects, and genealogy. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving her are her three children, Susan Carlson and her partner, Joe Martinez of Laredo, TX, Wayne Carlson and his wife, Ellen of Princeton, NJ, Richard Carlson and wife, Jennifer of Guilford, CT, and five grandchildren; Ethan, Samantha, Asher, Katherine, and Zane Carlson. She is survived by her brothers, Richard “Dick” Russell and Joseph Russell, and predeceased by her brothers, William Russell, Leonard Russell, John “Jack” Russell, and Thomas Russell. A visitation will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Saturday (this afternoon), June 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery in Middleton.
