Obituary of Mary A. Herwig

Mary A. Herwig, 89, of Peabody passed away Tuesday afternoon at Care One in Peabody surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred G. Herwig, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Mary was born on January 3, 1931 in Albany, NY, daughter of the late Gino and Rose (Ciman) Pegoraro and resided in Peabody for most of her life. She received her Nurse’s Aide certification from Lynn Hospital and had worked at Shaughnessy Hospital in Salem, prior to retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family with whom she cherished, she also enjoyed playing Bingo; she was proud of her Italian heritage and enjoyed listening to Italian music and solving crossword puzzles. Mary enjoyed the social events at the Elks, the Italian club, and the German-American club, all in Peabody. Mary is survived by her children, Paul Herwig of Peabody, Debra Gentile and her husband Louis of Beverly, Diane Thomas of Peabody; her grandchildren, Louis Gentile and his wife Robyn, Tim Gentile and his wife Renee, Heather Thomas, April Thomas, Kristen Conde and her husband Paul; Her great grandchildren, Nathan Conde, Scarlett and Brooks Gentile; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Carl W. Herwig, and Fred Herwig, Jr., and her siblings Joseph Verza, Raymond Pegoraro, Louise Leone, Angela Pellizzaro, Charlotte Sherrin, and her beloved dog, Max. A visitation will be held on Sunday June, 14 from 4-7 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Funeral services will be private.
