Obituary of Joan D. Cheney
Joan D. (Casey) Cheney, 75, passed away on June 12, 2020, at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, in Peabody. She was the wife of the late George C. Cheney, Jr., with whom she shared over 40 years of marriage.
Born in Chelsea, MA, she was the daughter of the late John W. Casey and Anna (O’Neill) Casey. She was raised and educated in Saugus and was a graduate of Saugus High School. She was employed at Walter Dyer Leather and worked as a seamstress for many years.
Joan loved gardening, spending time in the yard, and vacationing with her family. She also loved camping in her earlier years with her family and shared many stories, including driving up Mt. Washington and driving through the Six Flags Safari Park in New Jersey. She loved shopping and never passed up a good bargain but always with someone in mind.
She is survived by her children, Thomas B. Twiss and his wife Lisa; Daniel Twiss and his wife Kelli; Michael J. Cheney and his partner Danielle; Stepson John C. Cheney and his wife Diane; Stepdaughter Cynthia A. Hart and her husband William; her brother, John W. Casey, and his wife Jeanne; her 2 sisters, Sr. Nancy Casey and Elaine T. Pascucci; her sister-in-law, Joyce Jenney; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Paul C. Twiss; brother-in-law, Donald A. Pascucci; and brother-in-law, Robert Jenney.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 16, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody.. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
