Obituary of Harry J Shambos

Harry J Shambos, 79, of Peabody, died Monday at Mass General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late James and Helen (Manos) Shambos. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1958. Harry enlisted with the United States Air Force and served for 4 years before his honorable discharge in June of 1966. Following his military service, he began work with the former Eastern Airlines as part of the aircraft maintenance crew. Upon the dismantling of Eastern Airlines, he worked for JC Penney in shipping/receiving prior to his retirement. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially enjoyed his niece, nephew and great nephew and shared in their activities. He was good natured, loved his Greek heritage and had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh wherever he went. Many afternoons, he could be found entertaining the staff at Mr. G’s while enjoying a slice of pizza. In the apartment complex where he lived, he was well liked by the management as well as all the residents. He was very thoughtful, helped his neighbors and enjoyed his time laughing and chatting with them. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten. Harry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margo and George Padios of Peabody, his niece, Kristen DeSimone and her husband Kevin, his nephew Jonathan Padios Sr and his companion Stephanie Lane, as well as his great-nephew Jonathan Padios, Jr all of Peabody and several cousins. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. All are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
