Obituary of Andrea B. Broughton

Andrea B. Broughton, 79, beloved wife of the late David Broughton, died peacefully late Friday June 26, 2020 at her home in Peabody, while in the comforting presence of family, following an extended illness. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late William Bray and Jessie (Szafranski) Bray. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1958. Mrs. Broughton’s career started at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody. She also later worked as a dietitian at Pilgrim House nursing home. But the most fulfilling part or her career was the 20+ years she ran her daycare. Caring for dozens of children over the years, she would say, was the most rewarding work she could do. She stayed in touch with many of the children and their families throughout her life. Andrea’s passion was her family and friends. She was enthusiastic in being involved with her four children – volunteering at schools, den mother, team mom, carpooling, concerts, and always the avid fan at any and all sporting events. This continued with her three grandchildren. And though she had slowed a bit physically, was adamant to witness as many amazing accomplishments as she could. She and Dave loved spending whatever free time they had with their lifelong friends from Peabody and in retirement enjoyed travelling extensively with these longtime friends and making new friends at each destination. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, auntie, and friend. She is predeceased by her husband David Broughton of Peabody, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage. She is survived by two sons Rick Broughton of Peabody and Chris Broughton and his wife Lisa Jong of Madison, WI; a daughter Diane Broughton of Salem; three grandchildren, William Broughton and his wife Clara, Alana Broughton, and Colm Broughton-Jong; a brother-in-law Ralph Broughton of Peabody, and two nephews. She was the mother of the late Douglas Broughton. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a funeral service on Thursday July 2, 2020 at 10 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 1st from 4 – 6 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
