Obituary of Corliss E. "Chuck" Thornhill, Jr

Corliss E “Chuck” Thornhill, Jr, 67, of Salem and formerly of Haverhill, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday July 26, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Francine (May) Thornhill. Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Corliss E Thornhill Sr and Marilyn (Lapierre) Thornhill. He was raised and educated in Haverhill and has lived in Salem for the past 30 years. Upon his graduation from high school, Chuck enlisted with the United States Air Force and served for 4 years before his honorable discharge in 1975. Chuck was a carpenter by trade and worked independently throughout the North Shore for many years. For the last 20 years, Chuck was active at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Salem. He first started as an altar server and then reader and for past 8 years he served as a Subdeacon. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Erika Watson of West Springfield, his 5 brothers and sisters, several nieces and nephews and by the congregation of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Salem. He was predeceased by his stepdaughter Kaity Kartalias and brother Bruce Thornhill. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and capacity limitation at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, his Funeral Services will be held privately on Monday. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St, Salem, MA 01970.
