Obituary of Alice "Ellie" (Barakas-Magulas) Najem

Alice “Ellie” (Barakas-Magulas) Najem, 94, of Peabody, passed on Sunday, August 16, 2020 surrounded by her loving family in her home. She was the wife of the late George Najem. Born in Ipswich, MA she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia (Galinopoulos) Barakas. Alice was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High class of 1944. She was a lifelong member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, a former member of the Philoptochos Society at St. Vasilios, and she participated in the bible study group. She also loved to bowl and for the past eleven years was a member of the St. Adelaide’s Bowling League. Always the adventurous one, she traveled with her husband, George of 31 years enjoying many trips to Europe and traveling throughout the United States towing their 32 foot Airstream travel trailer as far as Alaska. She enjoyed preparing many family dinners throughout the holidays and on Sundays for her family. “Ellie” truly loved family and life! She also loved to sew and was an expert in her trade. In her early life work, she designed and sewed custom drapery/ curtains, she also worked for a stuffed animal manufacturer where she would design and create patterns. Alice is survived by her three daughters, Jeannie Magulas-Williamson of Salem, Linda Magulas and her husband, John Connors of Berkley and Donna Dewsnap and her husband, Paul of Peabody; ten grandchildren, Alexa and her husband, Tim Daigle of Salem, Jason and his wife, Jenn Williamson of Casco ME, Adam and his wife, Jenny Williamson of Lynnfield, Jana and her wife, Seana Williamson of Haverhill, Taylor and her husband, Mike Tocchio of Attleboro, Sgt. Christian Card, United States Army, Fort Drum, New York, Cameron Card of Berkley, Alexander Dewsnap, Andrew Dewsnap, and Alison Dewsnap all of Peabody with whom she enjoyed living with for the past eleven years, especially vacationing in Raymond, Maine enjoying the many campfires and boating days on Sebago lake. Seven great-grandchildren Jacob, Rosie, Seamus and Rebel Williamson and Zakk, Luke and Lily Tocchio. Alice was predeceased by her great-grandchild, Jade Williamson and her four sisters, Ethel Kalivas of Arlington, Bessie “Bette” Krupsky of Beverly, Stella Marathas of Natick and Christine Tolias of Canton.
