Obituary of Robert J. McDermott

Raymond, NH, originally of Peabody – Robert J. McDermott 73, beloved husband of Dianne M. (Roberge) McDermott, died Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brentwood, NH. Born and bred in Peabody, he was the eldest son of the late Harold and Mary L. (Dunleavy) McDermott. He graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, class of 1965, and continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from Boston College, class of 1969. Mr. McDermott was the co-owner and CEO of EBPA Insurance in Hampton, NH for many years. He began his career as a CPA at Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers), then advanced to vice president of finance for the Zayre Corporation. Even after officially retiring, he continued to be a fervent entrepreneur while working as a sales manager at the Shep Brown's Boat Basin in Meredith, NH. A longtime resident of New Hampshire, Robert was always looking for that perfect home whether in Greenland, or Moultonborough, even as far away as North Port, FL. He was an avid golfer, a lover of a meticulously manicured front lawn, a fan of Irish music and Elvis, and enjoyed fast boats and faster cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, with whom he shared thirty-eight years of marriage, he is survived by three daughters, Laurie White and her husband, Barry, Lisa Kelly and her husband, Thomas, and Kelli McDermott; two sons, Kevin McDermott and Mark McDermott and his wife, Alyssa; seven grandchildren; two brothers, James McDermott and his wife, Mary, and Michael McDermott and his wife, Anne; several nieces and nephews; and dozens of "cuzzins". He was also the brother of the late Maureen "Moezy" McDermott. His funeral service will be held graveside, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 226 North St., Salem, MA, Monday, September 14, 2020 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.
